On the Analysis of Variable-to-Variable Length Codes

چکیده
We use the \conservation of entropy" 1] to derive a simple formula for the redundancy of a large class of variable-to-variable length codes on discrete, memoryless sources. We obtain new asymptotic upper bounds on the redundancy of the \Tunstall-Huuman" code and the \Tunstall-Shannon-Fano" code. For some sources we provide the best existing upper bound for the smallest achievable asymptotic redundancy among variable-to-variable length codes for which there is an explicit code construction.

A New Finite Element Formulation for Buckling and Free Vibration Analysis of Timoshenko Beams on Variable Elastic Foundation
In this study, the buckling and free vibration of Timoshenko beams resting on variable elastic foundation analyzed by means of a new finite element formulation. The Winkler model has been applied for elastic foundation. A two-node element with four degrees of freedom is suggested for finite element formulation. Displacement and rotational fields are approximated by cubic and quadratic polynomia...
متن کاملSize-dependent thermoelastic analysis of rotating nanodisks of variable thickness
This paper contains a strain gradient theory to capture size effects in rotating nanodisks of variable thickness under thermal and mechanical loading. Material properties of nanodisks have been taken homogeneous material. The strain gradient theory and the Hamilton’s principle are employed to derive the governing equations. Due to complexity of the governing differential equation and boundary c...
متن کاملEFFECT OF LOCATION OF EXPLANATORY VARIABLE ON MONITORING POLYNOMIAL QUALITY PROFILES
The quality is typically modeled as the univariate or multivariate distribution of quality characteristic/s. In recent applications of statistical process control, quality profiles in which the relationship between a response and explanatory variable/s is captured and monitored are increasingly used to model the quality. Several techniques have been developed to enhance the speed of detecting c...
متن کاملSpecial Cases of Encodings by Generalized Adaptive Codes
Adaptive (variable-length) codes associate variable-length codewords to symbols being encoded depending on the previous symbols in the input data string. This class of codes has been presented in [10, 11] as a new class of non-standard variable-length codes. Generalized adaptive codes (GA codes, for short) have been also presented in [10, 11] not only as a new class of nonstandard variable-leng...
